The incredible power and the overwhelming menace of a full-grown South Carolina alligator is apparent in this series of photos taken by Terri Jenkins, a US Fish & Wildlife officer.
In this photo is a 12 to 14-foot giant alligator swimming home with an adult deer snack in its jaws at the Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge.
Giant gators are common in the Santee National Wildlife Refuge in South Carolina to coastal South Carolina and all the way to Georgia’s coast.
Wildlife biologists in South Carolina estimate the alligator population at 100,000, but people who live in the state's alligator country say the numbers are much larger. And the 10 to 14-foot monsters are common.
